THE SPLATTER BIRD TANKARD

AKA: Dirty Bird, Pooping Bird

The body of the mug is a tree trunk, brown on the outside and blue on the inside. Features a bird pooping on a troll inside the mug. Marked "© RUMPH 1973" on the bottom. Measures 7" high, 4.5" deep, and 7.5" across, from handle to side of mug.

There are two distinct variations of this piece: The first has the bird attached as a separate piece, actually using three molds for the piece - Bird, Mug and Rumph; the second has the bird as part of the mold for the mug, therefore using only two molds for the piece - Bird + Mug and Rumph. Both have the 1973 copyright date.

I dont know how much Rumph was sold in NY but I bought this splatter tankard on St Marks place in NYC in 1975. I have had it ever since and until recent years, I had no idea who Rumph was.
