The crack is breakage from the Northridge earthquake, which occurred a few months after Jim's death.

These were tricky to make as the mold line ran down through the nose and chin and and to be carefully removed while the slip was still damp and then the flesh colored slip applied to cover the scar. Jim painted the eyeballs.
